I've got the Painting and Embossing bug today!!

Well this afternoon I broke out my paints and embossing gun and went to town. I made 3 Dia de los Muertos inspired paintings!! Embosstastic!

This first one is a lime green calavera on a bright tomato red background. All the decoration on the skull is embossed as well as red swirls and marigolds in the background.

This one is glitter metallic mania. I'll have to say I have a slight obsession with glitter and metallic paints so I used them BOTH!! The background is black metallic with irridescent glitter paint on top. It looks beautiful in the light!! Too much you say NEVER!! I also used pearlized white for the skull and metallic paint for the designs. On top of that...yes their is more, I embossed the designs. It was really cool because as I used the embossing heat gun the metallic paint started to bubble up and created amazing texture!

This one is the first one I did, they are actually in reverse order in which I did them. This one is more realictic, a skull from profile view. The background is stained brown, black, and copper with gold glitter on top. I also embossed swirls using black and translucent powder. It looks shiney and wet. On the skull I painted various sugar skullish designs and embossed some of them!!

These beauties are all for sale on my etsy!! Check it out

Much Needed post

First of all here is the finished fired product of the dog bowls and tattoo coasters.

They turned out pretty well if I dont say so myself.

I coulden't resist this one...he must always butt in if I am not paying attention to him.

At the last art party with Molly we started making these embroidered/ painted hoop painting. Here are mine almost finished. I got threee different sizes and put muslin in one and patterned fabric in the others.

My mom got me the cutest book yesterday!! And it is quite appropriate. It has the most beautiful illustrations!!

Also as I have been working in my classrooms I have noticed that the other teachers are very generous with thier old stuff and always offer it to the art teachers before they throw it away...these amazing magazines were left at the door to my classroom the other day soe Expressions and Cloth Paper Scissors...some other anonymous gifts have been empty bottles of glue ( I will reuse the bottle), old table clothes, and old paint brushes!!

Also I want to share with you this trift store find that my sister gave me...it's a tooth pick holder!!
I will post pictures of my classroom soon!!

I have been MIA!!!

Ok, I have been missing for way too long!! This is why...first I went out of town to Dallas a weekend 3 day trip, then my internet has been down for about a week now and is very unpredictable when it is working, and I have been working on my classroom!! I will post tonight!! Promise, thank you faithful readers who have not deleted me off your lists!!

Painted Pottery, Handcarved stamps, and Paintings oh my!!

Anyways, here are some painted ceramic coasters that have not been fired yet, so they will look drastically different when they are. I am continuing with the tattoo series a bit.

Here is a painted canister that my mom specifically requested. She wants a set of famous art pieces on canisters and dishes! Can you guess which one this is?? ** Molly you can't guess because you should know already!!** This one also isnt fired yet. I'll be sure to posrt after they come out of the kiln.

Also I have rediscovered my love for print making in the form of and carving stamps!! I got the Idea from http://www.craftpudding.com/ to glue them on wood blocks to mae them easier and less messy

I also bought these cute mini letter stamps at Micheals crafts the other day for $1 each!! Isn't that cool I am really obssessed with stamps lately...if only I could thing of something to stamp them on!! lol

Also here is an update on the painting I was working on. I think it is almost finished but not quite. It is in thet stage where it needs something else but I am scared to mess it up by working it to much ya know?

New Painting for Mrs. Kiser

It is really weird that in a year and a half MY name will be Ms. Kiser!! but anyways this is a painting that I made for my future mother in law!!

What do yall think about the orange in the mix with the white?? It was somewhat of an accident. I didnt realize that the red would bleed through the white no matter how many coats I put on it, and get darker as the white dries. But I kind of like it

Finally Granny Square Number 10...or is it 11??

Granny # 10 or 11

this one is really cute don't you think?? It took a while to finish longer than others and was a little complicated when it got the the last two rounds, but over all pretty good

I have been creating up a storm!!! I have a painting in the works...finished another, 2 ceramic pet bowls, a new japanese print book, and a new addition to the tattoo ceramics!! Lucky for yall I have been documenting with pictures!! Expect many posts in the days to come...here is a sneak peak at a new painting

3 reasons why I haven't posted granny # 10

Reason # 1

granny number 10 is ridiculous and not a true grann square, it does not crochet around the edges but diagonally...and it is not cute and hard!! So I have expelled it from the count down and I am working on # 11

Reason #2

my fiance and I made a frivilous purchase....we bought a Wii and it is really fun!!

Reason #3

I was making this!! for my new sister in law to be!!

it is 16 x 20 acrylic on canvas,
it is called "All in the Family"
the pics turned out a little darker than it is in person, it is also coated with many THICK layers or varnish
What do yall think?

I'm Back with GREAT News

Hi, I'm back from my 4th of July trip to the lake and I'm engaged!! I have a wonderful fiance, a wonderful family a wonderful proposal and a beautiful ring!! It was all so perfect!!

Granny Square # 5

well I worked on some squares during my trip and I started with this one!! It is a daffodil!! and very cute I may add!!

Granny #6

this next square is soo cute I think! It is a butterfly!! The square was easy but I had to do the wings twice

Granny #7

I absolutely love this one, It was a Christmas wreath pattern and I just changed the colors it turned out so cute. The wreath poofs up for added dimension

Granny #8

This one was a tricky little booger and ugly too I dont like the way it turned out do you??

Granny # 9

this one was easy breezy and cute too!

4th of July trip to the lake!!

Hi, I am going out of town for the 4th and will be back on Monday so the Grannies will have to be paused until I get back. Don't worry I will be crocheting up a storm at the lake and will post numbers 5-9ish when I get back!! Have a great holiday and see you soon!

Wednesday, July 2, 2008

Granny Number 4

this one was a tricky little booger, I had to do the flower three times until I understood the patter, the flower puffs out a bit and that made it tricky, but all in all I like the finished product it looks very neat and precise to me!!

Tuesday, July 1, 2008

Granny Square Number 3

cutesty heart granny square, this one is ok, the heart is sewn on after the square is finished (cheating) but it still looks cute an very ruffly!!

Monday, June 30, 2008

Granny Square Number 2
this one turned out really cute I thing and it was fairly easy, I like the squares where the design in the middle is actually part of the square not just sewed on, I think thats kind of cheating!!

Crocheting up a Storm!!

Well I've caught the crocheting bug again and I decided to make a granny square afghan for my sister's birthday...it's not until October but I guess it's best to start early. I went to the craft store yesterday and bought way too much yarn and a crochet book called 101 Granny squares. I decided to make all 101 square except a Santa Clause face one because....well it's just stupid. So from this day forward Iwill be posting a granny sqaure a day!! for 100 days!!!
this is what happeneds when I try to pay attention to something other than him
notice the toy that he has dropped in the middle of my photo, it says chill pill
the blanket, it's one big granny square around the rim I am going to attach all the other small grannies that I have made

a few grannies that I got patterns for off the internet, I really like the first daisy one, I made two of them!!
the book
the yarn
Number 1
Pretty Pansy Granny
this one was pretty easy, I was unsure whether I was following the pattern right then I got to the light purple, but it all worked out. The flower is just stitched on the square not crochet in a round.
If you are interested in the patterns just comment and I'll post
Thanks

Examples, Bridesmaiding, and Camp Trunks!!

Well I have many things to share with you tonight...I am feeling suprisingly awake for some reason!! First of all I have some photo's of the prayer journals that Molly and I are going to make with our VBS art class. The oldest kids are going to learn how to bind a book, they will use canvas boards for the covers that they will paint and watercolor paper for the pages. They will be bound in by embroidery thread. Beads can be added to the ends of the string for added pizzaz. Here are some pictures of my example.

Front cover

Back cover

I added beads!!

Cool scrapbook paper for the inside

Also I finished the camp trunk I was telling you about for my boss's daughter. I used Testor Enamels to paint the semi slick plasticy surface. I think it turned out pretty well, she wanted her name with a zebra border and I added some silvery paisleys also

and here is a detail

And... I saved the best for last, My best friend Molly asked me to be a bridesmaid in her wedding!! Yay she is an amazing artist and made me this cool book full of photos of us throughout our friendship...most of them are art events lol!! Everyone should check out her blog titled Specs and Wings, the address is under my favorites!!
